In the 970s, Saint Dunstan of Cornwall founded a community of Benedictine Monks in this place but only between the years of 1045 and 1050 the abbey made of\u00a0stone was built by Edward \u201cThe Confessor\u201d. This is still a place of choice for royal celebrations, like the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the funeral of Princess Diana and the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This notorious London visit card tells\u00a0us the time precisely for more than 150 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this place we can also find the statues of Winston Churchill and Oliver Cromwell and the St. Margaret\u2019s Church, which is situated at the side of Westminster Abbey and the favorite of the politicians and famous people for their weddings. Another place near the Abbey is Dean\u2019s Yard, a picturesque square, constituted by buildings from different epochs, many of them occupied by Westminster School.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-67.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5226\" src=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-67-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"London - 67\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-65.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5224\" src=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-65-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"London - 65\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-63.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5223\" src=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-63-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"London - 63\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Very close to Parliament Square and towards the center of town, we have the Churchill War Rooms Museum. I loved it\u2026 Here we find the original chambers and the rooms where all strategies and communications of Churchill passed by during World War II, we understand perfectly the bunker where that government and its more emblematic leader commanded the destiny of that country and of Europe. We walked through the secret history that was lived underground, the stories of those who worked there\u00a0while London was bombed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-56.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5218\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-56.jpg\" alt=\"London - 56\" width=\"540\" height=\"810\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-56.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-56-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When we left here, we walked the White Hall Street until arriving to Trafalgar Square, to the next mandatory stop, the National Gallery, but not before taking a peek at the famous 10 Downing Street, official residence and office of the Prime Minister, and taking some pictures at the Horse Guards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-55.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5217\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-55.jpg\" alt=\"London - 55\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-55.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-55-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-44.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5211\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-44.jpg\" alt=\"London - 44\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-44.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-44-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>The National Gallery<\/em> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Gallery dates back from 1824 and it&#8217;s one of the most important museums in Europe and one of the most known around the world. It houses a precious collection of more than 2300 paintings, dating from mid XIII century to the beginning of XX century.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This monumental neoclassical building, constructed over a former London mansion that gives it the Italian columns at the entrance, has some of the most important, rare and emblematic works in the History of Art, from artists like <em>Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Gaugin, Degas, Picasso<\/em>, among others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Well, excellent morning but also exhausting, without a second to rest, but those who run for pleasure never tire, and just this way we enjoy \u00a0the city for real! We just had three days!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-40.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5208\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-40.jpg\" alt=\"London - 40\" width=\"540\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-40.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-40-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-40-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Covent Garden Apple Market<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So we stopped for lunch at the <em>Clos Magiore<\/em> restaurant, in Covent Garden, elected for years as the most romantic in town. The area is dominated by commercial establishments that offer shopping and entertaining, besides street performances. Covent Garden Market is an example of that, with bars and restaurants, street artists and varied stores.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-33.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5203\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-33.jpg\" alt=\"London - 33\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-33.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-33-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em> Royal Albert Hall<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After lunch and some deserved rest we went to an imposing building, the Royal Albert Hall, which unfortunately we weren&#8217;t able to visit because it was closed. This is a show room with capacity for more than 8000 people, opened in March 29<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>1871, by Queen Victoria, in memory of her deceased husband Prince Albert. The building is beautiful with a glass vaulted ceiling and the use of terracotta bricks, typical of the Victorian Era that is also present, for instance, at the Natural History Museum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-31.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5201\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-31.jpg\" alt=\"London - 31\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-31.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-31-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">A\u00a0dinosaurs&#8217;\u00a0fossil\u00a0in the Natural\u00a0History Museum<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking of it, it was precisely the place we headed next!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We arrived close to 5 pm,\u00a0therefore it was getting dark, which gave the Victorian building even more beauty. The space has around 70 million species or items. There is also a garden of healthy life that includes several native species of fauna and flora. Founded in 1881, as a department of the British Museum, it\u00a0has collections with great historical and scientific value, like the species collected by Darwin. One of the exclusiveness\u2019s is the permanent exhibition of dinosaur skeletons. The library has books, journals, manuscripts and art collections linked to the work and investigation. It is a place loved either by kids and\u00a0adults.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We ended our day walking and having dinner at Soho, in one of the most wanted restaurants, <em>Pulpo<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-62.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5222\" src=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/London-62-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"London -
