Speaking of the space it&#8217;s impossible not to state the quality of it for this type of event, circulation was easy and the possibility of talking to the producers was too, as well as tasting and knowing the wines, however, it was hard to identify the producers at a distance during the periods of higher flow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But now to the most important, the wines, we started our tasting with Niepoort, with the always tireless Paulo Silva showing some of the house references, like <em>D\u00f3cil<\/em>, white <em>Redoma<\/em>, an excellent red <em>Redoma<\/em> 2006, the amazing 2011 <em>Batuta<\/em> and a great 2010 <em>Omlet<\/em>, wine produced in partnership with Telmo Rodriguez, a wine without extraction, with an out of series elegance. Highlight also to <em>Baga<\/em>, which Dirk Niepoort had brought the freshly prepared batch and promises another excellent edition of this\u00a0<em>Bairrada<\/em> wine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-12.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4274\" title=\"portowine -12\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-12.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-12.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-12-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>Niepoort<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Still with the Niepoort Projects we can also refer Susana Esteban, the most portuguese spanish woman of the wine world, whom, after Douro, has been transforming the the wine making in Alentejo, where the spotlight goes to the first edition of <em>Aventura Branco<\/em> 2013, mineral, fresh, with body and dry ending, that will certainly be one of the great whites of Alentejo. And, of course, 2011 <em>Procura<\/em>, critically acclaimed, and by anyone with good taste, a live wine with strength, elegant tannins and complexity of flavor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Continuing at Alentejo, was the time to taste the wines of Miguel de Sousa Otto at Herdade do Vau, the <em>Riso<\/em>, where the 2013 white stands out with an interesting presence of <em>Alvarinho<\/em>, and the 2011 red <em>Reserva<\/em>, a great wine, of Gastronomic character, complex and elegant with dark fruit, floral notes and an excellent ending.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-10.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4272\" title=\"portowine -10\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-10.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"810\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-10.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-10-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>Miguel de Sousa Otto<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From Alentejo there was also time to taste the wines of Jo\u00e3o Portugal Ramos and the very Portuguese wines of Paulo Laureano, with clear highlight to the recovery of <em>Tinta Grossa<\/em>, an old caste from Vidigueira that produces a wine we could call exotic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-7.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4269\" title=\"portowine -7\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-7.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-7.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-7-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Ricardo Bernardo,\u00a0oenophile and photographer in service<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now passing to the other end of the country, the presence of Lu\u00eds Cerdeira, from Quinta do Soalheiro, stands out, he not only produces the best <em>Alvarinhos<\/em> in the country, but also the best white, the claimed <em>Primeiras Vinhas<\/em>. There was time for a little conversation and a glass of his sparkling ros\u00e9. Very good.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-9.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4271\" title=\"portowine -9\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-9.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-9.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-9-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>Soalheiro<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the border between Minho and Douro, Toby Smith\u2019s<em> Covela<\/em> deserves all the attention these days, excellent whites and great reds, with 2004 <em>Colheita Selecionada<\/em> with a brilliant acidity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-8.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4270\" title=\"portowine -8\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-8.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"810\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-8.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-8-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>Quinta da Covela<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Back to Douro, after the Niepoort wines, we went to Quinta Vale Dona Maria ones, with the presentation in charge of Joana Pinh\u00e3o, the oenophile in service, through a horizontal taste of the house wines it\u2019s impossible to resist to <em>Quinta Vale Dona Maria 2011<\/em>, very concentrated fruit, elegant tannins in a wine of great balance and power.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-11.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4273\" title=\"portowine -11\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-11.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"810\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-11.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-11-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><em>Quinta Vale D. Maria<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We tasted some other wines and there were lots of producers (more than 40 total) deserving a visit, but the time was short and the great moment of the day was waiting at the VIP Lounge of Porto Pal\u00e1cio, the Premium Room of Porto WineMarket.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-4.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4267\" title=\"portowine -4\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-4.jpg\" width=\"540\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-4.jpg 540w, https:\/\/flavorsandsenses.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/portowine-4-190x300.jpg 190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The main vocation of this room is the Port wine, chosen by Andr\u00e9 Ribeirinho and to mark the first edition of this event at Porto, went beyond a few \u201cgood\u201d wines. The presence of the historical <em>Vintage Noval<\/em> from 1964, indescribable and a truly unique experience. The 1942 <em>Niepoort Vintage<\/em> (unfortunately I didn&#8217;t get to taste it), or the <em>1900 Niepoort<\/em>, a wine that goes way far than its 114 years, another great, great experience.
